Existential conversations and existential psychotherapy

Conversations about meaning, identity and life choices

Existential conversations and existential therapy can help you explore questions such as: Who am I? What truly matters to me? How do I want to live? What gives my life meaning, value and a sense of belonging?

These are complex yet important questions that can have a profound impact on our wellbeing and quality of life. They are not always easy to answer, and sometimes we need someone who can help us explore them more deeply. The answers rarely come as quick solutions. Instead, they often emerge when we slow down, reflect and allow ourselves time to think.

In a safe and supportive space, you can put your thoughts, feelings, experiences and longings into words—without any pressure to find immediate solutions. You set the pace, and I will be there alongside you. I meet you where you are, and that is where we begin.

What are existential conversations and existential psychotherapy?

Existential conversations and existential therapy offer an open, exploratory space without predetermined assumptions, where existential questions are given room to unfold. Rather than being another therapeutic method, existential therapy can be an alternative or a complement to conventional psychotherapy.

Existential therapy does not primarily focus on treating specific diagnoses, nor does it regard suffering or anxiety as inherently pathological. Instead, suffering and anxiety are viewed as deeply human experiences that we all need to find ways of relating to.

The process is about discovering your possibilities and recognising your limitations, so that you can navigate an ever-changing world and live a more authentic life—guided by your inner compass.

The conversations do not follow a predetermined template. They are based on your unique circumstances, experiences and the questions that matter to you.

They may concern meaning, freedom and responsibility, loneliness and belonging, life choices, relationships, identity, loss or change. Sometimes, they may begin with an inner longing for something different—even when you are not yet sure what that might be.

The aim is not for someone else to give you ready-made answers. Instead, we explore your questions together and help you move closer to what feels true, authentic, important and meaningful to you.

When can existential conversations and psychotherapy be helpful?

Existential questions often arise during periods of change, at crossroads in life or when we are facing uncertainty. However, you do not need to be in crisis to seek existential conversations.

You may simply feel a longing for greater self-understanding, authenticity or meaning. Existential conversations can also form an integral part of psychotherapy, counselling and couples therapy.

Existential conversations may be helpful if you are:

  • longing for a deeper sense of presence, connection and quality of life
  • going through a life crisis or a period of change
  • facing a difficult decision or an important crossroads
  • experiencing emptiness, uncertainty or a lack of meaning
  • reflecting on who you are and how you want to live
  • want to understand your values and what genuinely matters to you
  • find it difficult to identify a direction in your personal or professional life
  • struggling with loneliness, responsibility, ageing, illness, grief or loss
  • want to live more authentically and in greater alignment with yourself
